People attending the funeral of animal lover Margarita Suarez were in for a surprise when they saw a pack of stray dogs turn up at the ceremony.

Suarez, a Mexican woman of limited means had always been kind to animals and would feed stray cats and dogs outside her home every day.

When Suarez passed away earlier this month, her family arranged a funeral but were in for a shock when they dogs turned up at venue.

The staff at the funeral did not recognise the animals and were about to turn them away before realizing they were there for the ceremony. They were then allowed inside.

The dogs then respectfully were seen lying around the casket as other funeral attendees watched in stunned silence.

Suarez's daughter Patricia Urrutia told ABC News, "They stayed with my mother all day, and then at night they all stayed- but In the morning all the dogs vanished but one, but one hour before we brought my mom to be cremated the dogs came back and grouped around as if to say goodbye. I swear by God that it was beautiful, marvelous."

"My mom has always been good with all animals and people. Always fed the dogs on her block and the 20 stray cats that lived there."

Thinking about the incident, Urrutia added, "When I was in a moment of so much pain these dogs that came, they showed me that everything was going to be okay. Because of them we were happy. They made a sad situation an incredible one."
