A car (not driver) that can take you to work is finally here and it's from future. Mercedes unveiled the silver-skinned F 015 Luxury in Motion during January's CES event and it's now inviting interested drivers to take a test ride (not test drive).

A computer-driven autonomous vehicle can be tested at a decommissioned Naval base in San Francisco.

Holger Hutzenlaub, a member of Mercedes-Benz' Advanced Design team, said that the car Mercedes is offering will be third place one would love to spend time at, after one's office and home.

"In the future, when cities will be bigger and the chaos greater, the greatest luxury goods will be privacy and time. We're creating a personal retreat," Hutzenlaub added.

The driverless car has been designed specifically for the digital consumer and include features such as high-resolution screens fashioned into all interior panels. Interiors of the car will tap eye-tracking and touch-control for a rider who may want to jump into the 'driver's seat' during travel, the German automobile said.

Still, the effect of being driven by a car is slightly disorienting. Since you can't see any steering mechanisms, you can't anticipate which way the car is going to move next, and each speed change comes as a mild surprise. For some, it could well lead to car sickness, NYT reports.

Mercedes has described the car as a vision for "the day after tomorrow" leaving us clueless about today in some ways.
