Oscar-Winning Actress Liza Minnelli Dragged Back to Rehab

Liza Minnelli, who had her heyday in the 1970s as an actress for her performance in Cabaret, is recently confined in a Malibu rehab facility for substance abuse particularly in alcohol consumption.

As reported by TMZ, the 68-year old actress, said to be in the facility for days now, is making 'excellent progress' in the rehab program.

"Liza Minnelli has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so. She is currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility, her spokesperson Scott Gorenstein said via CNN.

This is not the first time that the award-winning actress seek treatment from alcohol and prescription drugs. Reports said that the last time was in 2004. Also, in 2010, she receive a million-dollar offer in 2010 to be in the reality show "Celebrity Rehab" but declined.

E! Online also said that her first case of substance abuse is reported in 1969 when a Valium prescription is given to her after the death of her mother, the legendary Judy Garland.

E! Online mentioned a 2008 interview when Minnelli talked about how she had dealt with her demons saying, "My whole life, this disease has been rampant. I inherited it, and it's been horrendous, but I have always asked for help."

According to Mirror, Liza Minnelli is spotted earlier this year in her wheelchair while she was at an LA airport. The actress, that time, is said to have underwent two hip replacements and the installment of a 'bionic' knee in her body.

Since 2000, the actress have a hard time walking and talking after being infected with viral encephalitis, an infection that she got from a mosquito bite.

However, the actress survived and moved on with her life.

In an interview, she said: "I had to learn to walk an talk again. People don't usually recover like I did, but I would not give up. I just couldn't - I don't know how you'd do anything else."
