Have you ever been stuck on a train for so long and thought that perhaps it would have been easier if you just walked or jogged to your destination? A UK man did just that - he raced the London tube to see if he could beat it.

James Heptonstall, 30, and Noel Carroll, 29, each decided to see if they could outrun the London subway system by running on foot between stops. Heptonstall selected a 90-second sprint while Carroll performed a 5K endurance run.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Mr Heptonstall said: "It was just a test project.

"We had seen some people had done endurance challenges on European transport networks and put them online but we had not seen anything done in London.

"I usually get the Northern line to work in the morning - it is not an enjoyable experience so I sometimes run or cycle if I can," he said.

Speaking to the Evening Standard he described his 80-second feat: "I got some quite strange looks from people in the carriage because I was in my sportswear and a camera attached to my head.

"While I was running someone asked Noel what I was doing - they said they did not think I would make it.

"The other passengers were all waiting on tenterhooks.

In case you thinking of trying the same feat - both men are trained athletes. Heptonstall is an open touch rugby player for England and Mr Carroll is a coach at the Arsenal FC academy.
