Android Lollipop is slowly and steadily making its way onto more devices. According to latest edition of Google's Android Developers Dashboard, Lollipop runs on 3.3 percent of devices.

Android 4.4 KitKat runs on 41 percent of the devices, maximum share owned by any Android version.

Google noted that the statistics were gathered from the new Google Play Store app, which supports Android 2.2 and above, devices running older versions are not included. However, in August 2013, versions older than Android 2.2 accounted for about 1% of devices that checked in to Google servers.

Latest version of Android takes time to reach devices all around and the reason is, as CNet notes: "Before a new version of Android can reach you, mobile phone makers must test it both internally and through a small group of target users. Testing and actual rollouts then kick off region by region. Mobile carriers must also put the OS through its paces to make sure it meets their requirements. And all of this has to be done for each individual Android device. Hence the curse of Android fragmentation."
