National Football League running back Maurice Jones-Drew announced his retirement after playing in the league for nine years.

Drew announced his retirement via a Twitter post.

Drew spent 8 of those nine years as the marquee back for the Jacksonville Jaguars before spending the 2014 season with the Oakland Raiders. Drew was elected to three Pro Bowls for his efforts, and in 2011 he led the league in rushing with 343 carries and 1,106 yards, according to NFL.com.

After peaking in 2011, Drew was sidelined for most of the 2012 season with an injury to his foot that caused him to miss 10 games. In 2013, he also missed a number of games due to injuries.

Drew holds a number of records for the Jaguars, including longest kickoff return, most rushing touchdowns, most yards and touchdowns in a season, and most kickoff return yards.

Throughout his career, Drew earned 8,167 yards, 68 touchdowns, 2,944 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns. He averaged 4.4 yards per carry. Making these statistics all the more remarkable is the fact that Drew was only 5 ft. 7 in.
