An Australian man is lucky to be alive after suffering through a seizure in the middle of skydiving.

The BBC reports that Christopher Jones was jumping with instructor Sheldon MacFarlane from a plane that was south of the city of Perth. Although the incident actually took place in Nov. 2014, it did not become public until Jones posted a video of the terrifying ordeal on YouTube March, 1.

On YouTube, Jones said that he was in the fifth stage of his course to become a certified skydiver. His seizure began at 9,000 feet as he tried to make a left turn. The video on YouTube shows Jones falling normally until his body locks up and begins to seize in terrible contortions. After Jones begins to have his seizure, it is not immediately apparent things are going wrong.

MacFarlane soon realizes that Jones behavior is outside Jones' control. MacFarlane then begins to try to reach Jones so that he can pull his rip cord and deploy his parachute for him. The high speeds at which both men are falling make the task incredibly difficult, and MacFarlane has to make several passes at Jones before he is able to secure his hold on him enough to deploy the parachute.

The seizure lasted for about 30 seconds and Jones woke up before he would have landed. MacFarlane was able to pull Jones' cord at 4,000 feet, while Jones says he regained consciousness around 3,000 feet.

Jones seizures were due to epilepsy, a neurological condition that causes people to shake uncontrollably and suffer seizures.
