The family of Reeva Steenkamp, the shooting victim of Oscar Pistorius, says that justice has not been done in the murder of their daughter.

They are shocked that Judge Thokozile Masipa has dismissed murder charges against Pistorius and brought it down to culpable homicide.

"We were shocked. Shocked. Disappointed," June Steenkamp, the mother, told Britain's ITV News on Friday. "You know your heart drops because you just want the truth," she said, referring to the death of her daughter.

Reeva's father, Barry Steenkamp, said he found it difficult to believe Pistorius' version of the events. He said he understood and could forgive that it was a mistake but he felt it could have been prevented

"There is still something missing," Barry Steenkamp told ITV News. "I think there was more to the whole story, you know, coming up to the actual shooting, the killing."

June  said she found it difficult to look at the Pistorius' side after the verdict as they were all jubilant and celebrating.

Pistorius,27, has walked out on bail but may still face a stiff sentence for the lesser charge of manslaughter. The judge will announce the sentence on Oct. 13.

Pistorius, shot dead his girlfriend Reeva, through a bathroom door in the early hours on Valentine's day in 2013, mistaking her for an intruder.

"I just don't feel that this is the right (verdict)," June said in another interview to NBC News, reports AFP. She said her daughter had died a "horrible, painful, terrible death".

"And I can't believe that they believe that it was an accident," she said.
